The awesomeness of a superhero is great but the awesomeness of a group of superheroes is beyond words. No wonder Marvel Comics came up with The Avengers.
The Avengers is a fictional team that is composed of different superheroes from Marvel Comics. The team was conceptualized and created by Stan Lee (writer) and Jack Kirby (artist) who were encouraged by the success of Justice League by DC Comics. The superhero team made its first appearance on September 1963 in the comics entitled The Avengers #1.
Originally, the team is composed of Doctor Henry Pym who is also known as Ant Man, Janet Van Dyne who is also known as Wasp, Bruce Banner who is also known as the Hulk, and Thor. It is also known that Captain America joined the team when he had been discovered and revived by the team after being trapped under mounds of ice for years.
With its great line up of superheroes, The Avengers has been labeled as Earth's Mightiest Heroes. However, the team usually changes its roster of members from one superhero to another as the story necessitates. Despite this, it remains constant in all circumstances that The Avengers will only face enemies that a single hero cannot handle alone. With their mighty battle cry "Avengers, assemble!" the team has included different creatures including mutants, robots, aliens, gods, humans, and ex- villains who have turned from their evil ways.
The first quest of The Avengers began when Loki, the mischievous and deceitful god from Asgard, wanted to have revenge on his brother, Thor. Loki tricked the Hulk to destroy a railroad track by using an illusion. After that, he diverted Rick Jones' radio call for help to Thor in the hopes that Thor will fight against the Hulk.
Fortuitously, the Wasp, Iron Man, and Ant Man also answered the call without Loki knowing about it. After settling the misunderstanding, the heroes worked together to defeat Loki. Ant Man realized that they have good team work and suggested that they make a team. Wasp named their team The Avengers simply because it sounds dramatic.
Immediately after their first victory, The Avengers' line up of heroes changed. Ant Man who became Giant Man and the Hulk who discovered that his teammates feared the instability of his personality left the team. The Avengers tried to look for the Hulk but instead, they ended up finding Captain America who then became their member and was given the founding member position in place of the Hulk.
After that, the roster of members kept on changing. There came a time when Captain America was the only one left and was ironically able to recruit ex-villains including Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye tobe the new members of The Avengers. Because of this, the team is often jokingly called as Cap's Kooky Quartet.
The popularity of the team is mainly from the combined popularity of its members. Thus, many The Avengers games and merchandises have been produced. The Avengers games are available as online flash games but it is expected that remarkable The Avengers games will be produced upon the release of the movie in the coming year.
