Many popular shows usually have spin-offs. Batman had Robin as his sidekick and Robin ended up having his own show. The same thing happens a lot in animated television series for children. Dora the Explorer, one of the most popular TV shows for young girls, introduced Diego as the cousin of the main character. And guess what? Diego ended up having his own show too!
Diego Marquez was introduced in the show Dora the Explorer as the cousin of Dora Marquez. He wound up having his own show entitled Go-Diego-Go which is has some similarities to the show Dora the Explorer.
Diego is 8 years old and he rescues animals all over the world. He was initially voiced by Andres and Felipe Dieppa when he was introduced in the episode of Dora the Explorer entitled "Meet Diego!" From seasons 1 to 3, he was voiced by Jake Austin who was replaced by Matt Hunter for seasons 4 to 5.
Just like Dora who is always accompanied by her monkey named Boots, Diego is always accompanied by his jaguar named Baby Jaguar. Baby Jaguar who is voiced by Thomas Sharkey helps him rescue animals. When Diego is shown in Dora the Explorer, he is not always with Baby Jaguar. In Go-Diego-Go, Baby Jaguar has a more major role and has the ability to speak. Dora also makes some cameo appearances in Go-Diego-Go but usually without Boots.
In Go-Diego-Go, the focus is on teaching little children about different animals. The show also teaches some Spanish words but not as much as in Dora the Explorer where teaching Spanish words and phrases is one of the main foci. In both shows, there are many songs that are being used to teach children about the show's main focus.
Diego has gadgets and iconic stuff just like his cousin Dora. He has Click, a camera that helps him find the animals that need his help. He has Rescue Pack which is a messenger bag that he always brings and can be transformed into anything.
The main antagonist in the show- that is not as negatively antagonistic as Dora the Explorer's Swiper- is the Bobo Brothers. They are two spider monkeys who often cause trouble for Diego and Baby Jaguar. However, they do not do it on purpose and they apologize when they cause trouble. Just like Swiper, they can be stopped from shouting a phrase. In the case of the Bobo Brothers, they can be stopped by shouting "Freeze, Bobos!" repeatedly.
Go-Diego-Go shows that the family of Diego Marquez loves animals. Diego's sisters are Daisy and Alicia. The latter directs the animal rescue calls they get from the center while their parents are animal scientists.
Go-Diego-Go has become popular among children, especially among little boys. Consequently, many merchandises and Go-Diego-Go games- mostly online flash games- have been made for various gaming platforms. Some of the popular Go-Diego-Go games include Go-Diego-Go: Safari Rescue, Go Diego Go: Wolf Pup Rescue, Go-Diego-Go: Great Dinosaur Rescue, and Diego's Build and Rescue.
