Modern technology has certainly brought about loads of benefits and uber coolness to our society. However, it has also brought about eerie things like the possibility of having the Terminator come to life and the odds of the emergence of a highly advanced alien race of humanoid robots known by many of us as the Transformers.
Well, as of now, the Transformers who can transform from humanoid robots to different kinds of vehicles and mechanical objects are trapped in the fictional world of Cybertron and can only be linked to the real world by movies, games, toys, and other merchandises.
Actually, the Transformers originated from toys from a company named Hasbro that focused on two types of alien robots at war, the evil Decepticons and the good-natured Autobots. They were like robot action figures that come with a detailed description along with their packaging.

The Transformers have been around for about 27 years and starting from toys have branched out into the comics, television series, and movie industries which boosted their popularity as the years passed. There have been different sequels to the television series including Armada, Cybertron, and Energon. Also, three Transformers movies have been released worldwide and the release of the fourth movie is expected to be on 2012.
The Autobots usually transform into cars, trucks, and other land vehicles. Only some of them can turn into aircrafts. On the other hand, many Decepticons can transform into aircrafts, one of which is a popular Decepticon called Starscream.
Also, Autobots have blue eyes while decepticons have red eyes. It is also noticeable how the names of Autobot groups end with the suffix "-bot" while the names of Decepticon groups end with the suffix "-icon".

Still, the most blatant difference between the two warring factions is their insignias which look like a face of a robot. Their insignia signifies to which faction they belong. Autobots have a blue and red insignia while the Decepticons have a purple insignia.
The Transformers have two leaders which members of each faction look up too. They are also more powerful compared to other Transformers. The Autobots are led by Optimus Prime while the Decepticons are led by Megatron who was later on succeeded by Starscream after his demise.

In the original story of Transformers, Autobots are often shown to befriend human beings. Humans and Autobots usually work together to defeat the Decepticons and stop their evil plans. However, the story of Transformers had many spin offs through the years. There are versions where the original story was severely changed. For instance, in the "Shattered Glass" story line, there are evil Autobots and heroic Transformers who fight against them have a red Decepticon insignia.
Since the release of the Transformers films worldwide, Transformers games were released as well. In online flash games alone, there is an abundance of Transformers games. There are also Transformers games that can be played on different gaming consoles. Popular Transformers games include Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and Transformers: War for Cybertron.
