Captain America is probably the most patriotic take on being a superhero. His name and outfit say it all. Just like Superman, Captain America is a very iconic superhero who strictly follows a moral code.
Joe Simon and Jack Kirby are the people responsible for the creation of Captain America. At that time, the fictional character was created under Timely Comics, now known as Marvel Comics. His first appearance was on March 1941, in Captain America Comics #1.
In the original story, the real identity of Captain America is Steve Rogers. Steve lived in New York during the time of World War II. He was a frail man who was also a fine arts student. His parents were Irish immigrants. His father, John Rogers, died when he was very young and his mother, Sarah Rogers, passed away due to pneumonia when he was in high school.
Steve was highly displeased with the Nazi Germany, also known as the Third Reich. Because of this, he enlisted to join the U.S. Army in the war against the Nazis. Unfortunately, because of his poor body built he was rejected. Opportunely, he was offered to be a test subject in Operation: Rebirth by General Chester Phillips of the U.S. Army.
Operation: Rebirth was a top-secret project of the U.S. Army which seeks to create Super Soldiers that are in the peak of human potential. The "Super Soldier Serum" was created by Doctor Josef Reinstein, later on named as Abraham Erskine. Rogers was chosen to be the first test subject. He was injected with the "Super Soldier Serum" and he also took oral doses of it. He was then exposed to "Vita-Rays" that stabilized the chemical in his body and changed his physical form.
He instantly went from being a feeble man into a brawny and muscular male. The Super Soldier Serum increased his strength, endurance, healing, agility, stamina, intelligence, and reflexes to their full potential. Drugs, alcohols, hypnosis, and the likes do not have an effect on him. However, despite these abilities, Captain America does not have superhuman strength and powers.
Unfortunately, Doctor Erskine was assassinated after he turned Steve into a Super Soldier. Thus, Steve was the sole beneficiary of his genius invention and the only Super Soldier.
Captain America's weapon is the indestructible, disc-shaped shield made of "Vibranium" . This metal was accidentally invented and was never reproduced. Attempts to duplicate the metal led to the discovery of "Adamantium". He uses the shield to protect himself and to attack by throwing it accurately to hit multiple enemies.
Through the years, Captain America has battled with several opponents. His popular enemies include HYDRA which is a terrorist group, Red Skull and Baron Zemo who are Nazis, Alexander Lukin who is a communist, Arnim Zola and AIM who are technocratic fascists, Doctor Faustus and Crossbones who are Neo-Nazis, and Viper and Flag Smasher who are anarchists.
The popularity of the character led to the production of various merchandises including Captain America games. The recent Captain America movie led to the release of Captain America: Super Soldier which is currently on the top list of Captain America games. There is also a wide variety of Captain America games nowadays which are available as online flash games.
