If you think that orphaned kids always end up as a nasty person, then the story of Naruto would probably change your mind.
Naruto is a popular Japanese manga (or comics) by Masashi Kishimoto who is both a writer and an illustrator. The manga is one of the best selling mangas in Japan and has sold over 113 million copies in Japan alone.
The story is about a boy named Naruto Uzumaki who grew up without a family. He lives in a village called Konoha whose leader and strongest ninja is called the Hokage.
When Naruto was a baby, a nine-tailed demon fox (also referred to as Nine Tails or Demon Fox) attacked the village of Konoha. The Demon Fox was so powerful that it cannot be killed with the combined efforts of all the ninjas in the village. To save Konoha, the fourth Hokage sacrificed his life to seal the Demon Fox inside an infant who is Naruto. The imprisonment of the Demon Fox inside him gave Naruto a sun-like mark on his belly.
After the incident, the third Hokage who was already quite old then made a decree that no one should talk about the attack of the Demon Fox. This leaves Naruto without any knowledge about what he has inside him. Consequently, most of the citizens of Konoha feared young Naruto and mistreated him since they perceive him as the Demon Fox itself.
Despite the rudeness of many people around him, Naruto grew up to be an optimistic, energetic, and good natured boy who dreams of becoming a Hokage someday. As the story progressed, he eventually found out about the Demon Fox inside him. As he went through training, he discovered that he can be a skillful fighter and that he can harness the power of the Demon Fox inside him to use it in battle.
The story of Naruto emphasizes friendship as he makes friends with his fellow Ninjas, loyalty as he and his friends fight for each other, and hope as he goes through severe challenges in life without giving up.
Because of the popularity of the manga, it has been made into an animated television series which first aired on October 2002 on Japan's TV Tokyo network and Animax which is a satellite TV network. It has also been shown by Viz Media in the United States and Canada in 2005, in United Kingdom in 2006, and Australia in 2007.
Moreover, several OVA's (original video animations) and eight movies based on the series were made by Studio Pierrot. The animated TV series entitled Naruto had 220 episodes and the sequel entitled Naruto: Shippuden which continues the story of Naruto as a teenager started on February 2007. The Naruto manga is still an ongoing series as of now.
